Myanmar

I was a bit taken aback the other day when one of my coworkers was reading the early reports of the devastation from the cyclone that hit Myanmar and remarked - "He's really cleaning things out over there." This young man is a Christian. Our conversation often wanders...

Power of the Word

Yesterday I found myself writing on paper, not on the website. Some things simply do not belong here. They are too specific, too personal. As I wrote, I found my thoughts took real shape. They became more focused. I would write a sentence and read it back to myself....

Holiness 101

Holiness/Piety: Being in Love with God. Pure and simple. It seems there are several substitutes for the real thing. I'm trying to get to the real thing (and no it's not Coke). The kind of love relationship where you are happy or joyful just sitting with someone. I'm...

Called and sent

I'm just back from working a Cursillo weekend -- held in a retreat house on what is truly holy ground. As I participated in the closing mass yesterday, my thoughts wandered once again to Susan's Ascension posting. At the conclusion of a weekend, the participants are...

Commissioning

I was reading Susan's post on the Meaning of the Ascension and our commissioning before off to work as a part of the team for the Women's Cursillo this weekend. This weekend much of her thoughts will be made concrete. Not only will we reflect on Christ in our lives,...

Pray, Study, Act

Throughout the Easter Season I've been following the Acts of the Apostles as they begin to spread the Word. It strikes me as a book detailing how these new Christians learned what they should do now that they were new Beings. They are sharing what they have seen, but...

Where would I go?

I've heard it said, and I believe it: the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. Hate requires some sort of emotional connection and response. Indifference comes from being insulated from that sort of connection, it seems. Today's gospel begins: Jesus said...

Do not let your hearts be troubled

Over the past week, the gospel repeated these words over and over. "Do not let your hearts be troubled." And yet, even as I read them over and over, I realized that my insides were saying to me - "That's wonderful. But, my heart IS troubled." Not troubled in a...

Expectations

I have a relative who keeps my inbox loaded up with all of the current chain mail and jokes that circulate around the net. I sometimes feel like I have my own personal spammer. Thing is, I usually at least look at every one of those emails, because I never know when...
