Mercy

It's stuck with me for over a week now: Mercy. And more than that, the definition of Mercy as something like "womb-love." (Thanks Jack for that). Mercy is that kind of love and relationship that most mothers have for their off-spring. It's what makes Mama always...

Body and Blood of Christ

I wish I had recorded the homily Saturday night -- I keep trying to review it and remember the wonder of the words. The feast of Corpus Christi - the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. A reflection on just what that means. As I attempt to comprehend another "body"...

Trailblazers

My friend Susan posted this morning about Creating the Path by Walking It. And, of course that set me to thinking (her thoughts almost always set me to thinking) about paths, and examples and saints. Sometimes we do create the path by walking it -- as uncomfortable as...

Taking care

I was reading Susan's musings over at Creo en Dios! and pondering her thoughts on The First Shall Be Last. I have to agree -- so often I find myself giving over to someone else's needs and not listening to myself. The upshot is that I finally am so depleted, so angry,...

I believe, help my unbelief!

Today's gospel was a story I had almost forgotten from Mark - Jesus comes down from the mountain with Peter, James and John and comes across a crowd. A man in the crowd has brought his son who has been possessed by a "mute demon" since childhood. The other disciples...

Trinity

This morning's second reading reminds me of the past week: Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. It seems that I...

Pray for one another

After feeling so overwhelmed yesterday, I found myself praying for my friends... and talking with them on the phone. They actually know each other. And by the end of the day, friend A was using me to pass the message that she would be praying for friend B and vice...

Survivor guilt (or the dark night of the soul)

It seems that life is so very rugged for many of my friends right now. A couple of them are involved in situations where there are legal issues to be settled before they can get proper medical treatment. There are health issues that are cause for concern. If I focus...

To forgive is not to forget

Several years ago I was helped along by a someone who carefully explained that in order to forgive, you must not forget - you must remember. I wonder why I should have a flare up of remembering on Pentecost... oh, yeah, it was Mother's Day. I finally, after nearly...

Garage 1 and Garage A

Funny what comments will cause you to stop and ponder. My sister built an apartment on to her house for my mother to live in. It has its own entrance, a full kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom - and a full 2 car garage. With wedding celebrations going on this...
