Practicing the Presence of God

Today was Retreat Day for the current Women's Cursillo team and the theme was no surprise to me (I know the retreat master.) First, we were presented with the concept that we are meant to be "human beings" - and too often we are just "human doings." Then we were...

Ananias

The first reading today is the story of Paul on the road to Damascus. Paul knocked to the ground,  having a vision and becoming blind. Paul making a sharp turn in his life and going from persecuting the followers of the Way to becoming one of them. Today, the person...

Staying with it

Funny how thoughts run in packs... I'm listening to Richard Rohr remind me that Christianity is about relationship, and staying in the relationship and not about doing it all perfectly. And then I go over to Creo en Dios! and see Susan's post The Best That I Could and...

Looking back, Looking forward

I had a birthday last week. Another year added to my age. That doesn't really bother me much - I certainly don't feel my age very often, so the years are basically irrelevant. But then I look around at my friends and family, and  suddenly realize that time is moving...

Face to Face

This morning I came up against some feelings that I had been avoiding or ignoring or just pushing aside. The moment offered me a first chance at examining where I am, where I might want to be, and what I am willing to do to try to get there. Are there those folks in...

Dogwoods

The dogwood is associated by legend with the crucifixion: the cross and the crown of thorns in the center. When I was a child, my mother had some trees planted, and one that survived for several decades was My Dogwood. As I understand it, I followed the workmen around...

Emmaus

Susan relates the story of today's gospel so well, I'll send you there for that summary. And I'll take up her challenge to reflect on what keeps me from being able to see that Jesus is with me. How many small walks to Emmaus do we make? I'm brought back to the refrain...

Ultreya!

I just got back from making a run down to Holy Trinity where the men's Cursillo is in progress. Amanda and I took off early, had a great breakfast at the IHOP, got caught in traffic, and finally made it to the retreat house in time to hear the sounds of the men...

Blues in your shoes

There's a song that we used to use for mass (back during the days of the original Glory & Praise). I suppose it got ditched because it was deemed "not liturgically appropriate" - but it meant alot then, and it still calls to memory a lot of how I see life as a...

John 3:16

Probably the most familiar scripture verse ever --and the central point of the Christian faith all in one sentence. As I think of how much love that required (requires) it brings to mind my current delight at the news that my only granddaughter will soon have a new...
